Shakuhachi
Filmmaker and player of the shakuhachi, Matvija is a performer of contemporary, improvised, and Japanese traditional ensemble and solo music. He studies the shakuhachi with a shakuhachi virtuoso, Kifū Mitsuhashi. In 2017, Matvija was awarded the title nattori shihan of the Kifū-kai and a performance name, Kimei, 貴明. He is a member of a microtonal ensemble Quarter to Three and ensemble for site-specific music Topos Kolektiv. Since 2022, Matvija teaches shakuhachi at the Academy of the Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU).
He has graduated at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) and studied under Czech composer and shakuhachi player Vlastislav Matoušek. Matvija has performed throughout the Czech Republic and in Japan, France, the Netherlands, Hungary, Slovakia, the USA, and Portugal.
